Basic Policy and Scope<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Specified Non-Profit Corporation Clean Ocean Ensemble, hereinafter referred to as \u201cthe Organization,\u201d recognizes the importance of properly handling personal information and related information in connection with its activities, including solving marine debris issues, collecting and recycling marine debris, conducting research, providing environmental education, raising awareness, and receiving donations and sponsorships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization complies with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan, other applicable laws and regulations, guidelines issued by the Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan, and other relevant standards, and handles personal information and related information appropriately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Privacy Policy applies to the Organization\u2019s websites, the \u201cClean Ocean Ensemble\u201d smartphone application, the Marine Debris Map, donations, sponsorships, events, research activities, environmental education, volunteer activities, recruitment, inquiries, and other services and activities provided by the Organization, collectively referred to as the \u201cServices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terms such as \u201cpersonal information,\u201d \u201cpersonal data,\u201d \u201cretained personal data,\u201d and \u201cpersonally referable information\u201d used in this Privacy Policy have the meanings prescribed in the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 2. Information We Collect<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect the following information to the extent necessary for the provision and operation of the Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Information about users, supporters, and other related persons<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect the following information about users, donors, sponsors, event participants, volunteers, job applicants, persons making inquiries, and other persons related to the Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Name, display name, organization name, affiliation, and title<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Address, telephone number, and email address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Age, gender, residential area, and other profile information provided by the individual<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Account information, login information, and authentication information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information related to donations, sponsorships, event participation, volunteer participation, recruitment applications, and similar activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information entered in inquiry forms, questionnaires, application forms, and similar forms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Payment and transaction information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect the following information in connection with donations, sponsorships, events, provision of goods or services, and other transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Donation amount, sponsorship amount, payment date and time, payment method, transaction ID, and payment result<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information necessary for issuing receipts, accounting, refunds, billing, and other transaction management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bank account information necessary for payment of remuneration, honoraria, transportation expenses, and similar payments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For donations, sponsorships, event participation fees, and other payment processing, the Organization may use payment processing services provided by ROBOT PAYMENT INC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Credit card numbers, security codes, and other sensitive payment information may be collected directly by ROBOT PAYMENT INC. or payment service providers affiliated with ROBOT PAYMENT INC., and the Organization may not directly retain such information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Information related to the Marine Debris Map and application<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In providing the Marine Debris Map and smartphone application, the Organization may collect the following information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Photos and videos related to marine debris, collection activities, research activities, and similar activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Date and time when photos or videos were taken<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collection date and time, posting date and time, and update date and time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Location information obtained from GPS, devices, photo metadata, or locations specified by users<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Latitude and longitude, accuracy of location information, acquisition method, and correction history<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collection categories, including coastline, sea surface, seabed, rivers, and other categories<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amount, weight, number, type, material, condition, and other attributes of collected debris<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comments, descriptions, tags, and other information entered by users<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Post ID, data registration date, update date, and deletion status<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information related to collectors, collection organizations, projects, collection owners, sponsors, and similar parties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>History related to confirmation, correction, non-disclosure, deletion, and similar handling of posted content<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Photos and other submitted materials may contain metadata such as shooting location, shooting date and time, and device information. The Organization may delete or make non-public metadata that is not necessary for publication or use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Device, communication, and usage information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect the following information for the provision of the Services, quality improvement, troubleshooting, and security purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>IP address<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cookie ID, device identifier, device ID, advertising identifier, and other online identifiers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Device type, operating system, browser, language, time zone, and application version<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access date and time, pages viewed, operation history, posting history, and synchronization history<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Error information, crash information, and security logs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information collected through cookies, local storage, SDKs, and similar technologies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may associate device identifiers, device IDs, and other identifiers with user accounts, post IDs, or usage history for account management, prevention of unauthorized use, synchronization of posted data, troubleshooting, and security purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Information obtained from third parties<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may obtain the following information from third parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Payment results and other transaction information provided by payment service providers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information provided by social networking services, authentication services, or other external services based on the individual\u2019s consent or operation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information lawfully provided by event organizers, schools, companies, local governments, research institutions, collection organizations, and other partner organizations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personally referable information such as cookies, device identifiers, browsing history, and location information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Organization obtains personally referable information as personal data by matching it with information held by the Organization, the Organization will take necessary confirmation and other measures in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 3. Purposes of Use<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization uses collected information for the following purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To provide the Services, verify identity, manage accounts, and authenticate users<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To provide functions for posting, storing, synchronizing, editing, searching, displaying, and deleting data on the Marine Debris Map<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To display posted photos, locations, collection dates and times, collection amounts, types, collection organizations, and similar information on the Marine Debris Map, and to visualize marine debris collection activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To confirm, correct, make non-public, or delete posted data in relation to its content, duplication, errors, unauthorized postings, infringement of rights, and similar matters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To research and analyze the distribution, drifting, accumulation, amount, type, source, and movement routes of marine debris<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To research, develop, and improve technologies and systems for marine debris collection, prevention, recycling, collection devices, and similar initiatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To conduct joint research, surveys, policy proposals, and social implementation with universities, research institutions, national and local governments, international organizations, companies, NPOs, and other organizations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To publish research and activity results in academic papers, research reports, business reports, statistical materials, educational materials, presentation materials, websites, social media, and other media<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To conduct environmental education, awareness-raising activities, public relations, media relations, and activity reporting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To report activities, measure impact, and issue certificates to collection owners, sponsors, sponsoring companies, and similar parties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To accept, process, and manage donations, sponsorships, events, payments, receipts, accounting, and related communications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To send newsletters and information regarding events, donations, sponsorships, and other activities of the Organization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To respond to inquiries, consultations, complaints, and requests for disclosure and similar matters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To analyze usage of the Services, improve quality, develop new functions, and respond to system failures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To prevent, investigate, and respond to unauthorized use, cyberattacks, violations of terms, infringement of rights, and other problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To exercise rights and perform obligations under laws, regulations, contracts, terms of use, and similar rules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To create statistical information, aggregated information, analytical materials, and other information that does not identify specific individuals, and to use such information for research, policymaking, education, public relations, or open data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To carry out purposes incidental or related to the foregoing<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Organization uses information in a form that identifies an individual beyond the original purposes of use for research, publication, or provision to third parties, the Organization will obtain the individual\u2019s prior consent unless otherwise permitted by law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 4. Publication of Data on the Marine Debris Map<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Information that may be made public<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Information posted to the Marine Debris Map that is indicated on the posting screen or within the Services as subject to publication will, in principle, be reflected in the web version of the Marine Debris Map and made available to an unspecified number of people on the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Information subject to publication may include the following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Posted photos, or edited or resized versions thereof<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Post ID<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collection location or approximate location<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collection date or collection date and time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collection category<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collection amount, weight, and number<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type, material, and condition of debris<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Posted comments, descriptions, and tags<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Display name or organization name selected by the poster for publication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Names of collection organizations, collection owners, sponsors, projects, and similar parties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization will endeavor to clearly indicate information subject to publication on the screen before posting or within the Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Handling of location information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect location information such as precise latitude and longitude when users use the Marine Debris Map and application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Location information may make it possible to infer the poster\u2019s or a third party\u2019s residence, activity location, fishing grounds, private land, habitats of rare species, or other sensitive locations. Therefore, the Organization may separately manage precise location information obtained at the time of posting and location information made publicly available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With respect to publicly available location information, the Organization may take the following measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rounding coordinates within a certain range<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replacing precise locations with approximate locations such as municipality names, sea areas, or coast names<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Converting precise times into date-level information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delaying publication for a certain period<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Making non-public private residences, private land, fishing grounds, habitats of rare species, and other sensitive locations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Organization uses precise location information for surveys, research, joint research, or activity analysis, the Organization will limit access rights and, as necessary, establish conditions such as confidentiality, prohibition of use for purposes other than the stated purpose, and prohibition of re-provision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If permitted by the user through device settings or in-app settings, the Organization may collect or use location information even when the application is not open, for the purposes of storing or synchronizing posted data, correcting location information, or recording activities. Users may stop or restrict the collection of location information at any time through their device settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Third-party information included in photos and other content<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Posters shall take care not to include the following information in posted photos, videos, comments, or similar content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Faces or appearances of identifiable persons without their consent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vehicle numbers, vessel numbers, name tags, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and similar information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information that can identify private residences, schools, workplaces, or other places related to an individual\u2019s private life<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information about minors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trade secrets of third parties or other information that should not be made public<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If identifiable persons or similar information are included, the poster shall obtain necessary consent or permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may blur, crop, delete metadata, modify location information, suspend publication, or delete posted photos and similar content to protect the rights and interests of posters or third parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Information after publication<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Information made available on the internet may be indexed by search engines, viewed, quoted, shared, screenshotted, cached, or otherwise stored by third parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may suspend publication or delete information on websites and systems managed by the Organization. However, the Organization does not guarantee that information already stored, reposted, or used by third parties can be completely deleted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 5. Research, Statistical Use, and Open Data Use of Marine Debris Map Data<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Organization uses data accumulated in the Marine Debris Map for public-interest purposes, including marine environmental conservation, marine debris collection, prevention, recycling, environmental education, policymaking, research, and similar purposes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Organization may provide Marine Debris Map data to universities, research institutions, national and local governments, international organizations, companies, NPOs, and other organizations to the extent necessary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the Organization provides personal data that can identify an individual to a third party, the Organization will obtain the individual\u2019s consent or use another method permitted by law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Organization may continuously use, provide, and publish statistical information, aggregated information, analytical materials, and other information that does not identify specific individuals and does not constitute personal information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the Organization provides part of the Marine Debris Map as open data, the Organization will separately specify the target data, format, terms of use, license, update date, and method of attribution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Posted photos and videos are handled separately from structured numerical, location, and classification data, and are not included in the scope of open data licenses unless expressly designated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information that can identify individuals, information that may infringe rights or create safety issues if disclosed, detailed behavioral histories, and sensitive location information are, in principle, excluded from open data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marine Debris Map data may include unverified information posted by users. The Organization will check duplication, input errors, location deviations, classification errors, and similar matters to the extent possible, but does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for a particular purpose of the data.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 6. Handling of Each Data Category<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization handles major data categories related to the Marine Debris Map in accordance with the following policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Posted photos and videos<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect photos and videos related to marine debris, collection activities, research activities, and similar activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These photos and videos may be made public on the web version of the Marine Debris Map or other media designated by the Organization if they are indicated on the posting screen or within the Services as subject to publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may delete or make non-public metadata that is not necessary for publication or use. If photos or videos include a third party\u2019s face, vehicle number, address, or other personal information or information that should not be made public, the Organization may, as necessary, blur, crop, make non-public, or delete such content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Location information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect latitude and longitude, location accuracy, locations specified by users, and other location information related to posting locations, collection locations, or research locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Location information may be made public on the Marine Debris Map. However, in consideration of the impact on posters, third parties, local communities, and the natural environment, the Organization may generalize precise coordinates when making location information public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Precise coordinates may be used for surveys, research, joint research, activity analysis, and other public-interest purposes with access rights limited to authorized persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Date and time information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect the date and time when photos or videos were taken, collection date and time, posting date and time, update date and time, and other date and time information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such date and time information may be made public on the Marine Debris Map. However, in order to prevent excessive identification of posters\u2019 activity histories or locations, the Organization may convert precise times into date-level information when making such information public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Debris-related information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect information related to marine debris, including collection amount, weight, number, type, material, condition, collection category, and similar information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In principle, such information may be used for display on the Marine Debris Map, statistical analysis, research, activity reporting, environmental education, policy proposals, and open data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Post IDs<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may assign a post ID, which is a system-specific identifier, to manage posted data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Post IDs may be made public on the Marine Debris Map, but they are managed separately from user account IDs, email addresses, and other non-public information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Collector information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect information about collectors, including individual names, display names, organization names, and similar information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individual real names are, in principle, made public only when the individual chooses publication. Organization names, display names, and project names may be made public on the Marine Debris Map, activity reports, certificates, and other media designated by the Organization in accordance with posting details, contracts, application details, or the individual\u2019s choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7. Organization, sponsor, and project information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect information related to collection organizations, collection owners, sponsors, sponsoring companies, project names, and other organizations or parties involved in activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such information may be made public on the Marine Debris Map, activity reports, certificates, research reports, statistical materials, websites, social media, and other media designated by the Organization in accordance with contracts, application details, or the individual\u2019s choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8. Comments, descriptions, and tags<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect comments, descriptions, tags, and other text information entered by posters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such information may be made public on the Marine Debris Map. However, if such information includes personal information, information that infringes third-party rights, trade secrets, defamatory content, or other information that should not be made public, the Organization may make all or part of such information non-public, modify it, or delete it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>9. Account information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect email addresses, internal user IDs, authentication information, and other information necessary for account management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such information will not be made public on the Marine Debris Map. The Organization manages public data and account information separately, and uses account information to the extent necessary for identity verification, login management, management of posted data, prevention of unauthorized use, inquiry handling, and operation of the Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>10. Device, communication, and log information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may collect IP addresses, device IDs, operating systems, browsers, application versions, access logs, error information, crash information, and other information related to devices, communications, and logs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such information will not be made public on the Marine Debris Map. The Organization uses such information to the extent necessary for security, troubleshooting, quality improvement, prevention of unauthorized use, and stable operation of the Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>11. Edit and deletion history<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may store histories related to correction of posted content, making content non-public, deletion requests, deletion responses, inquiry handling, and other management of posted data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such histories will not be made public on the Marine Debris Map. The Organization stores and uses such histories to the extent necessary for audits, inquiry handling, dispute resolution, responses to rights infringement, and proper operation of the Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 7. Provision and Sharing of Personal Data with Third Parties<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization will not provide personal data to third parties without the consent of the individual, except in the following cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When required by law<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When necessary to protect the life, body, or property of a person and it is difficult to obtain the individual\u2019s consent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When particularly necessary for improving public health or promoting the sound growth of children and it is difficult to obtain the individual\u2019s consent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When it is necessary to cooperate with a national government agency, local government, or a person entrusted by them in performing affairs prescribed by law, and obtaining the individual\u2019s consent may interfere with the performance of such affairs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When otherwise permitted under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Information posted to the Marine Debris Map that the poster has agreed to make public, or that is indicated within the Services as subject to publication, may be shared with or disclosed to general viewers, supporters, sponsoring companies, research institutions, local governments, and other third parties through the web version of the Marine Debris Map, activity reports, certificates, research reports, statistical materials, and other media designated by the Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If information that constitutes personal data is made public on the Marine Debris Map, the Organization will indicate the items and scope of publication on the posting screen or similar location and will publish such information based on the poster\u2019s consent or selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Entrustment of personal data handling to external service providers, provision of personal data in connection with business succession, and joint use in accordance with laws and regulations may not constitute provision to third parties under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 8. Outsourcing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may outsource all or part of the handling of personal data to external service providers to the extent necessary for the provision and operation of the Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outsourced service providers may include providers of the following services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Servers, cloud storage, databases, and backups<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development, maintenance, and monitoring of applications and websites<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Map display, location information, and image delivery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access analytics, troubleshooting, and security measures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payment processing and inquiry handling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research, data organization, statistical analysis, and analysis or processing support using AI and similar technologies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization will appropriately select outsourcing partners and conduct necessary and appropriate supervision through contracts, access controls, confirmation of handling status, and other measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 9. Handling in Foreign Countries<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may use cloud services, application development and distribution services, access analytics services, AI-related services, and other foreign service providers that use servers located outside Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If such use constitutes provision of personal data to a third party located in a foreign country, the Organization will provide such data based on the individual\u2019s consent, a system conforming to standards prescribed by law, or another method permitted by law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When required by law, the Organization will provide information necessary for the individual\u2019s decision, including information on the personal information protection system of the destination country or region and measures taken by the recipient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization will publish on its website, or respond to requests from individuals regarding, major foreign service providers used by the Organization, their countries or regions, and security management measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 10. Retention Period and Deletion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization retains personal information and related information only for the period necessary to achieve the purposes of use or for the period required by law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Information whose retention period has expired or which is no longer necessary will be deleted, disposed of, or processed so that individuals cannot be identified, by secure methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Posted data on the Marine Debris Map may be retained in consideration of the necessity for long-term environmental analysis, research, and activity records. However, information that can identify individuals will be limited to the extent necessary for the relevant purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If an individual requests deletion, the Organization will suspend publication or delete the relevant information within a reasonable period, except for information that must be retained under laws or regulations or for legitimate business reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Information stored in backups may remain for a certain period after deletion from normal systems because it is deleted according to the backup update cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Statistical information, aggregated information, analytical materials, and similar information that do not identify specific individuals and that were created before deletion may continue to be used after deletion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 11. Security Management Measures<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization takes necessary and appropriate security management measures to prevent leakage, loss, damage, unauthorized access, and unauthorized use of personal data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Security management measures include the following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Establishing a person responsible for personal information protection and handling rules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Limiting personnel and authority for handling personal data<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Managing account authentication, access controls, and operation logs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encrypting communications and implementing other necessary technical protections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Properly managing devices, media, and documents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establishing regular backups and recovery procedures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educating and supervising officers, staff, contractors, and similar persons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Selecting outsourcing partners, executing contracts, and confirming handling status<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Establishing systems for reporting, investigating, preventing spread of damage, and preventing recurrence in the event of leakage or similar incidents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understanding systems and conditions in foreign countries when personal data is handled there<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization will respond to requests from individuals regarding specific security management measures to the extent that doing so does not compromise security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 12. Response to Leakage and Other Incidents<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Organization becomes aware that leakage, loss, damage, or another incident involving personal data has occurred or may have occurred, the Organization will promptly investigate the facts and endeavor to prevent the spread of damage, identify the cause, and prevent recurrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When required by law, the Organization will report to the Personal Information Protection Commission of Japan and notify the individuals concerned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 13. Cookies and External Transmission<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may use cookies, local storage, device identifiers, SDKs, APIs, and similar technologies for the provision of the Services, maintaining login status, analyzing usage, improving quality, analyzing failures, and ensuring security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through these technologies, information may be transmitted from users\u2019 devices or the Organization\u2019s systems to the Organization or external service providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Organization uses external services, SDKs, APIs, or external libraries and information concerning users is transmitted from users\u2019 devices or the Organization\u2019s systems to external service providers, the Organization will disclose, to the extent required by applicable laws and regulations, the content of the information transmitted, the name of the recipient service provider, the purpose of use by the Organization, the purpose of use by the recipient service provider, and methods for disabling or opting out, on the Organization\u2019s website or within the Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If cookies or similar technologies are disabled, some parts of the Services may not be available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 14. Information of Minors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Persons under the age of 16 must obtain the consent of a parent or other legal representative when posting to the Marine Debris Map if the post includes location information or photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a school, educational institution, event organizer, or other organization provides information about minors to the Organization, such organization shall obtain necessary parental consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a minor\u2019s face photo, name, precise location information, or similar information is to be made public, consent indicating the scope of publication and purposes of use shall be obtained separately from ordinary participation consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Organization discovers that it has obtained or published information about a minor without necessary consent, the Organization will confirm the facts and promptly suspend publication, delete the information, or take other appropriate measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 15. Requests for Disclosure, Correction, Deletion, and Similar Matters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In accordance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan, individuals may make the following requests to the Organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Notification of purpose of use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disclosure of retained personal data and records of provision to third parties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Correction, addition, or deletion of content<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suspension of use or erasure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suspension of provision to third parties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With respect to posts on the Marine Debris Map, a poster or a person whose rights or interests have been infringed by a post may request correction, non-disclosure of location information, processing of photos, suspension of publication, or deletion by providing the post ID, relevant page, reason for the request, and information necessary for identity verification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization will respond in accordance with laws and regulations and the Organization\u2019s prescribed procedures after confirming that the requester is the individual concerned or a legitimate representative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may refuse all or part of a request if retention is required by law, if responding would harm the rights or interests of a third party, if responding would significantly interfere with the proper implementation of the Organization\u2019s business, or if the Organization is not legally obligated to respond. In such case, the Organization will explain the reason to the extent possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Article 16. The notice also states that OpenMapTiles code is released under the BSD 3-Clause License and its design under CC BY 4.0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The map style used by the Organization for the Marine Debris Map is Positron. According to the OpenFreeMap license notice, the Positron GL Style is based on the OpenMapTiles Positron GL Style and includes elements derived from CartoDB Basemaps. The notice states that the Positron GL Style code is released under the BSD 3-Clause License and its design under CC BY 4.0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Organization may use MapLibre GL JS as the map rendering library for displaying data on the Marine Debris Map.
