Learning from Experience
This is a participatory workshop where participants can experience the challenges and possibilities of environmental conservation through actual sorting of marine debris and art creation. This is a program that a wide range of people, from children to adults, can enjoy and learn from, creating an opportunity to take the first step toward a sustainable future.
Workshop for Hard Plastic
1. Washing
The first process involves cleaning plastic materials collected as marine debris. By removing seawater, dirt, oil, and other contaminants, the material is prepared for recycling. The cleaning process increases the purity of the material, allowing it to be processed smoothly in subsequent processes.
2. Cutting
After washing, plastics are cut into smaller sizes. Large chunks or irregularly shaped plastics are made into uniform sizes to facilitate reuse. In this process, the plastic is cut into smaller pieces to allow for efficient processing in the next step.
3. Sorting by Color
The next step is to separate the cut plastic into different colors. Color sorting helps to maintain uniformity of colors in the subsequent recycling process and to create beautiful products. In addition, separation is an important process because different colors have different reuse methods and uses for recycled products.
4. Packaging
The color-coded plastics are then packaged in the appropriate form for recycling. The packaging process makes the material easier to handle and prepares it for the next process. Efficient packaging ensures a smooth workflow and reduces waste in the recycling process.
5. Recycling
Finally, the packaged plastic is recycled and transformed into actual products. In this process, for example, plastics are heated and molded to create products that can be used daily, such as coasters. Through recycling, marine debris is transformed into products with new value, thereby contributing to the reduction of environmental impact.
