Examine Marine Debris
Marine debris research is an important step in the protection and sustainable use of the marine environment. Marine debris can have an impact on plants and animals, cause imbalances in ecosystems, and in the long term, have a significant impact on human society. We conduct surveys through beach cleanups and the collection of marine debris with collection devices. Through these surveys, we are seeking practical solutions to confront the marine litter problem.
Research Methods
1.Collection
Collect marine debris through beach cleanups, collection equipment, etc.

2.Sorting
In order to efficiently sort the marine debris during beach cleanups, we have introduced the “Sorting Collection Beach Cleanup. Collected marine debris is sorted into 12 categories.

3.Weighing and visual photography
Record the weight of the sorted marine debris and take photographs.

4.Data processing
The weight and weight fraction are calculated for each classification. The recycling rate is also calculated to determine how much of the collected trash is turned into resources. The date, location, and number of people at the time of collection (and other parameters such as weather, wind, and currents) are also recorded, and the relationship with the amount of marine debris collected is clarified.

5.Data sharing
Data is updated monthly and published on our website and social networking sites.
